Re: Not getting feedback points in return for answers
Let's try a little social experiment with this forum. Let's eliminate the points completely and see how many people still answer questions about VMS?
I think you're right, though, political correctness has gone too far in this country. I guess it's taken us (i.e., U.S.) a little over 200 years to forget that socialism and communism doesn't work!

If _ANYONE_ in this forum does do without "political correctness", then it _IS_ mr SMS aka Steven Schweda.
And although I personally prefer to put things in milder words, most (all?) of the times I think he _DOES_ see things rather sharp and correct.
I personnally usually reserve bluntness towards people I know well enough that they: a. prefer the hard truth out in the open or b. they have more than once demonstrated that the cannot accept a technically correct answer because it in not on the same rails as there political desire.
Furthermore, quoting Hein, I do not attibute to malice to what can be simple ingorance and uncompetence, until proven otherwise.
And let's be glad that there do exist different styles. Without them the world would be SO dull!!
Finallt, I do have to line up for the point we all agree on: VMS _IS_ (by far) the best OS in existance.
Proost.
Have one on me.

Fine with me, but that would run the risk of
spawning threads involving juvenile
complaints about missing points assignments,
which then degenerate into social commentary.

Re: Not getting feedback points in return for answers
C'mon people, I'm pretty sure we're all "on in years" here ie. not 14 years old in high school!
Let's all try and play nice ... it's Friday, there's beverages chilling in the fridge for later and it's almost Xmas!
If anything, let's taunt the Windows folks ;-)
Cheers, seriously,
Art

No, "incompetence". I once again fumble-fingered, and failed to notice while proof-reading. :-(

I like that! Some day, some bar. Next bootcamp?

Steven never wanted to become a Pariah. It just happened. Some day he'll take a real job.
Art>> C'mon people, I'm pretty sure we're all "on in years" here ie. not 14 years old in high school!
It's almost like c.o.v in here huh?!
Jan>> If _ANYONE_ in this forum does do without "political correctness", then it _IS_ mr SMS aka Steven Schweda.
Steven still has a long way to go to catch our (OpenVMS) friend Tier3 - Richard.
Agreed on times to apply bluntness and room for differences
DECxchange>> Let's eliminate the points completely and see how many people still answer questions about VMS?
Don't bother. We did that for 20+ years. At Digital/Compaq/HP it was through VAXnotes, specifically the conference VMSnotes. I can not get to the resources to check just now, but I'd guess 50,000 - 100,000 topics over 10+ volumes with 250,000 replies? There were hundreds of conferences: Ctnotes, all-in-one, VAXbasic, DECbasic, DECwindows, Alphanotes, Fortran, Cobol, cars, beer, secretaries, acms, rms-notes,...
Similar, The Decus VMS VAXnotes conference. First note Apr-1987, 3500+ topics, last replies... earlier today. Highly technical, no points. And then there is c.o.v. No points, a lot of whining, but a good deal of pertinent information, and no points.
I helped I all of those, as did Hoff, as did John Gillings and Vaxman and many more. Just to help and learn. That was the point.
Cheers,
Hein.

This conference is for the discussion of VMS. This includes DCL, system
management issues, clusters, RUNOFF, EDT, TPU, installations, error, bugs, etc.
Basically any products (or sub-part) that is shipped on the VMS distribution is
fair game. However, questions and comments about DECnet are probably best
discussed in one of the network conferences.

Re: Not getting feedback points in return for answers
I just don't like to be insulted. if you insult me, you're going to get it back. I don't mean any harm, unless you do.
Now, I don't care about the points, or how many any of you have. You can have all of my 53 points, whether you think I earned them or not, and add them to your total for all I care.
I've been working on PDPs, VAXs, and Alphas since 1987. Obviosuly, you guys think you're smarter than me. I don't care. If you think I'm stupid, I don't care. I don't need your approval. What I do is good enough for my boss and that's all that matters.
Now, I have another question to ask (in another thread), but if you don't want to answer it, fine. Don't. But if you have any more insults to dish out, you're going to get it back. Fair enough?
If you want to kick me off the forum, go ahead. I would probably be better off to not spend time here anyway. You guys got it covered.
THANKS!!!!

Great Art, thanks! Yeah, Labatt is one of my favorites. Molson Canadian is good too.

<<<
Now we enter one of my favorite topics!
Admittedly, I am not very knowledgeable in Canadians, but I still have "work" to do closer to home.
Did you know Belgium is called the "land of 1000 beers", and that that is actually an UNDERstatement? The last official tally I know of reported 1935 different (some with very small regional, and/pr seasonal, availability). I am approaching personal experience with 1000.
Add to that 100's of German, dozens of Dutch and Austrian, and some individuals of many other nationalities.
Somehow this stream IS getting further and further off-topic, eh?
Proost.
Have one on me.

Re: Not getting feedback points in return for answers
Funny you should mention Belgian beers. In fact, there is a place in downtown Plymouth, MI called the Box Bar which has thousands of beers on their menu, both domestic and international (from many, many different countries).
Anyway, the countries with the nost beers are Belgium and Germany (outside the US). I don't know if they have all of the Belgian beers there, but they must have at least 1 or 2 hundred! ;)
If you want, I can see if I can get a copy of their menu and send it to you. In my opinion, it's a pretty interesting menu, if you're a beer expert.
