Open VMS Administrator exam!

Hello,
Any one presented the Open VMS Administrator exam ??
I've failed it with 52/100, meaning just about 3 more questions.
Any help? Any ideas?

Simon,

I'm not sure what you're asking. What do you mean by "presented"?

It sounds to me like you just missed out on passing. Perhaps a bit more study (see the Exam Preparation Guide) and try again?

Re: Open VMS Administrator exam!

with the MS exams there are web sites devoted to questions and answers and study guides - parhaps this is what is being sought. For the hp VMS exams there are only the official Exam Prep Guides from hp (and the excellent VMS manuals :-) Personally I think the quality of the VMS documentation far exceeds the MS Windows documentation in the same way that VMS far exceeds Windows but some may say I'm biased :-)

What kind of questions are you referring to? Can you give some examples. We might be able to answer them for you.

Re: Open VMS Administrator exam!

Simon, what was the exam section with the worst result?

The documentation section down from page 7
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/hpcp/epgs/HP0-651_EPG.pdf
mentioned documents and sections covered by the exam. The "Chapter/Section Titles" column points to the most important sections.

Sanjay,
Pick AP from http://www.hp.com/certification/examinfo.html for Malaysia or
Try it via http://securereg3.prometric.com/

http://networkessentials.com/certified/vms/getq.cgi
generates random questions for OpenVMS without relationship to an exam.

Re: Open VMS Administrator exam!

Hi Simon,

I fully agree with Ian that Open VMS does not have any dumps like any other MS or Cisco or many other exams. You will have to purely concentrate on the technical deocumentation and the practical experience. You should be more aware about things like paging, memory etc apart from other system administration jobs.

Sanjay,
You can visit 2test.com and find out the nearest exam centre and all other info about the exam like pricing.

Its a good thing that the standards of the OpenVMS exam have not been degenerated and the ones getting the certification are the real guys who have the exposure of the real stuff .

I wish you all the best for your next attempt for OpenVMS exam .

Cheers,

Re: Open VMS Administrator exam!

simon,

Sorry, there are no "cram guides". The exam was deliberately designed to be cram-proof. You really need to know the right answers to a majority of questions to pass.

The questions are also carefully designed so that if you understand the concepts, you should be able to work out the answer. There are very few "trivia" type questions where you just have to know the answer.

When doing the exam, make use of the "mark" facility. If you don't know the answer immediately, mark the question for later. Work through the ones you know first, then use "Review Marked" to go back over the ones you missed first time.

If you still don't know the answer, try to eliminate the ones that are wrong, then make an educated guess from what's left. Make sure you give an answer to every question, as there are no penalties for wrong answers. Use "review incomplete" to make sure you've answered every question.

Note that the pass mark is relatively low, because the scope of the exam is so broad. Your 52/100 means you really do know your stuff, but you haven't quite made the grade. The intention is that anyone with less than 3 years OpenVMS experience WILL fail the exam. Those with more will probably pass, with higher marks expected from those with more experience.

Make sure you're familiar with all the competency areas listed in the EPG and that you've read the recommended sections of most of the manuals referenced (there are exceptions, we don't expect you to have read the entire DCL dictionary!). Your exam report should have told you how well you did in the different sections. Concentrate on those for next time.

Also be aware that you will get a different set of questions the second time around.

Re: Open VMS Administrator exam!

Hi Simon,

I am looking to take this exam soon aswell...

Attached is an excel document that i have produced with the area's in the exam and some info that i have put under these area's to make my revision easier however i have'nt got round to finishing it yet and have'nt checked it either (some may be wrong!! and some area's have'nt got any info under)
So if any of the experts would like to add to it / correct it and re-post it would be a great help.

Cheers

Re: Open VMS Administrator exam!

I've got to keep up with these forums!

Guys, I'm at a U.S. government site that normally doesn't spend a lot of money on things like training, but fortunately I have lot of experience. Unfortunately, notices for things like exams get lost in the shuffle.

Can someone point me to a web site where I can find out what exams are available? In particular, if there is a vendor-sponsored (or reputable-company-sponsored) OpenVMS SECURITY exam, my local Info Sec team would probably like to know about it. But the OVMS SYS ADMIN exam might be useful, too.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
