Re: OpenVMS Hobbyist License

Sumant,
Is this system for your personal use? That's the condition for a hobbyist license.

If the system belongs to any kind of commercial entity, or is used for business use, please contact HP to negotiate the purchase of the necessary licenses.

If it's your personal system for non-commercial use, go to http://www.openvmshobbyist.com/licenses.php

Re: OpenVMS Hobbyist License

Sumant,

DECUServe is now an official Hobbyist Chapter, so you need to register an account with DECUServe first to get your membership number. For details see:

http://decuserve.org/

There is a current story about this on OpenVMS.org.

Re: OpenVMS Hobbyist License

Sumant,

there is no password for the REGISTRATION account.

So it looks like TELNET is blocked from your site and SSH with an account without a password does not seem to work on EISNER.

Re: OpenVMS Hobbyist License

Sumnat,

this is a 'known problem' (registration via SSH is currently not possible) - see DECUSERVE_Forum note 831.*

You need to find a way to login via TELNET for REGISTRATION (maybe from home) ?

Re: OpenVMS Hobbyist License

To summarize the helpful link given above, log into DECUServe and enter the command HOBBYIST at the dollar-sign prompt. That will print the membership number you need to get the Hobbyist license. If you try your membership number and it does not work, it may be because it can take a few days for DECUServe's new-account information to be transferred over to the Hobbyist website, so a bit of patience is required in that case.

Re: OpenVMS Hobbyist License

Yes you are Keith.I issued the command hobbyist and i got all the imp info but when used the same member number on hobbyist site i got error "member id not found in the database" so i think it will take some time.

Re: OpenVMS Hobbyist License

Dear Support Members,

Can anyone tell me how many days registration process will take because still i am getting error message.

"Your Membership Number is not in our database or is incorrect. Please check with your Chapter to insure it is correct and they have updated us. Sorry for any inconvenience"

But when i type hobbyist on command prompt i can see my member number.Let me know which option i need to choose to get hobbyist license on openvms.org link.

Re: OpenVMS Hobbyist License

Sumant,

please be patient. This is a 'hobbyist site' for non-commercial use, so give them a couple of days.

This information is from the DECUServe.org site:

DECUServe transmits membership information to the Hobbyist Program twice
weekly, if you have recently registered on DECUServe please allow time for
transfer and processing into the Hobbyist database.

Re: OpenVMS Hobbyist License

Sumant,

the SSH login problem (to accounts without a password) at DECUServe.org has now been fixed. You'll just need to press when SSH asks for a password...

Re: OpenVMS Hobbyist License

Just to reinterate - the Hobbyist licenses are for personal non-commercial use only, typically where someone has a VMS machine at home for their own interest and amusement (or indeed frustration).

If you're using this for software development / testing / training / whatever for or on behalf of a commercial organisation, the DSPP licenses are the best way to achieve that. You get those by signing up at http://www.hp.com/go/dspp and then (once your DSPP membership is confirmed) obtain the license PAKs by downloading them from the relevant part of the DSPP web site.

Re: OpenVMS Hobbyist License

Hi Volker Halle,

I have another problem.

I have registered in decuserve.org
and got the membership number.

Then I input the data into http://www.openvmshobbyist.com/licenses.php , press continue, I get nothing at last. No error message, no mail about license, what's happen? Can you help me?

Jack
