						One of our engineers was asking if we could encrypt our backups. So I tried the following command.
$ bac/encr a.dat b.dat
Enter key value:
Verification:
I got the following error. As usual it is impossible to look up items on the HP web site. Does any one have more information on this Data Encryption Facility and is it free or a layered product?
%ENCRYPT-E-PRODNOTINS, optional software product Data Encryption Facility not in
stalled
Thanks
Cass

SolutionHi Cass,
With 7.3 you needed a license to use encryption. In 8.3 it's included with the base operating system, http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/83FINAL/6679/6679pro_002.html.
The SPD for Encryption at http://h18000.www1.hp.com/info/SP2674/SP2674PF.PDF has part number for 7.3 PAKs. Depending on your environment, it may be easier to add a layered product instead of migration.
We should meet for lunch again, one of these days. I'm in Kearny Mesa now.
Andy
	If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over? Reach me at first_name + "." + last_name at sysmanager net

						For V8.2 you can use it but its a seperate install. Look for the kit on the OS CD.
The manual is
