PCL Printing Overlays
Hi,
I'm trying to print to an overlay to a Lexmark printer using LPD. I have some overlays stored on the printer itself which are used from PC running windows. Currently we produce a text file that is ftp'd across to the windows PC's, imported into word and then printed with an overlay from word. I would have though that there must be someway possible to print directly from our VMS box.
I have set up the queues on the VMS system using LPD and can print text etc to them fine. My idea was to create a setup module which would pass a PCL commnad to print the file with the overlay that resides on the printer. However, on looking through the PCL guide I cannot find any such command. Is it a case of converting the file into a raster graphic somehow and then use a PCL macro? Can you do this with multi page prints (overlay is the same for each page but data will be different) ? All help gratefully received!!
Thanks in advance
Dave

Re: PCL Printing Overlays
Dave,
the whole concept of (setup, reset, whatever) modules is incompatible with LPD.
To LPD they are separate files, ie, separate print jobs, with the printer being reset each file. Even the possibility of a file intervening between setup module and text file cannot be ruled out.
Basically you have two options:
forget LPD and use TCPIP$TELNETSYM,
or print to a spooled device, and use LPD to de-spool your spoolfiles.
Success.
Proost.
Have one on me.
