Porblem mounting AIX drive on OpenVMS system
I have a problem that occurs on an infrequent basis and I am not sure what to do. I have an OpenVMS server running OpenVMS V7.3-2 using HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Alpha Version V5.4 - ECO 4.
We have a nightly .com job that copies files to an AIX machine for processing. The command we use to do this is: tcpip mount dnfs10: /host=aix021 /path="/aix021/app01/hwse/ftp" /user=hagv01mgr /TIMEOUT=0000-00:00:30.00
The problem I am having is that occasionally, once or twice a month, the mount fails with the following error:
%TCPIP$DNFSMOUNT-E-MOUNTFAIL, error mounting _DNFS10:[000000]
-SYSTEM-F-PROTOCOL, network protocol error
I even have a loop around the mount that will try to execute the mount every 2 minutes for 20 minutes, but all the mounts will fail. I will try to mount the AIX system from an SGI Unix machine and the mount will work successfully. I will try later in the day for the OpenVMS server and the mount will work.
Has anyone had a problem like this with mounting? Or, does anyone have an idea on how to solve this problem?
Thank you very much.

Re: Porblem mounting AIX drive on OpenVMS system
You should take a Tcpip trace before the mount command, in order to see more precisely what happens.
$ help tcptrace
will give you some more info.

Re: Porblem mounting AIX drive on OpenVMS system
Andy,
I am not an expert on this, and there is not much info availble from your post, but is it possible that DNFS10 is already/still around when you issue the MOUNT command?
If you do not explicitly specify "10" in DNFS, then then the system should supply the next available #, which you would then have to pick up and use in your procedure.
I might be completely on the wrong track here though.
Maybe worth a try.
Proost.
Have one on me.
jpe
