Problem connecting powerterm as console...

I am now attempting to connect my powerterm as a console.

I first tried connecting to a terminal server by removing the MMJ cable from a VT connected to a TS and inserted it into a MMJ to 9-pin converter and connected this to my PC. This connected fine.

Then I took the MMJ cable connected to the console port of the alpha, diconnected it from the console VT and inserted it into the same converter and connected this to the COM port of my PC. But This does NOT connect! I checked the speed/parity etc. and they jive.

Thanks,

Chaim

Re: Problem connecting powerterm as console...

Chaim,

You could try experimenting with different settings for flow control (none, Xon/Xoff, hardware); I remember that did the trick for me some time ago.

Camiel,

Thanks for the reply, but this did not solve the problem. Tried all three options available.

Re: Problem connecting powerterm as console...

Chaim,

While you are connecting two computer system through communication device then straight cables are used.
Cross cable will be required for direct connectivity. Hope you have already taken care of that.
If not you can checked the Tx and Rx at your PC and Alpha end.

Re: Problem connecting powerterm as console...

Shankar,

I guess that is the problem. I am using the SAME mmj->9-pin converter when I insert the cable from a TS or the cable directly from the ALPHA, and I guess these have to be different. Is there a way to work-around this without changing the converter?

Thanks,

Re: Problem connecting powerterm as console...

Chaim,

There are lot of cross com 9 pin to 9 pin converter available in the market.
Or if you are comfortable with hardware then you can interchange the connection to pin 2 and 3 at 9 pin end connector.

Re: Problem connecting powerterm as console...

Shankar,

Thanks for your reply.

Since I am NOT well versed in which pin goes where, I will request your assistance.

One of our technicians here says that the converter that I have been using DOES have pins 2 & 3 crossed. So perhaps I need a converter where pins 2 & 3 are NOT crossed? When I connect the cable which is from a terminal server it works fine even though the converter has 2 & 3 crossed. I assume that the cable coming from the console port of the ALPHA has been made correctly. And when inserted into a VT works properly.

What do you suggest?

Thanks,

Re: Problem connecting powerterm as console...

Chaim,

See the link below, That might be of help.

The thing is TX of one system should be going to Rx of the other system.

Re: Problem connecting powerterm as console...

Shankar and everyone,

I got it working! Our comm guy noticed that all 8 pins are used on the console plug. He also said that he has a special converter. Once we hooked up with this it works!

Thanks for all your help!!!

Re: Problem connecting powerterm as console...

Once one of our comm technicians came and was able to look at the cables, he was able to configure the correct converter.

Thanks to everyone !!!
