If you are referring to the same REXEC that I am thinking of, it is a remote execution facility that is part of the TCP/IP Suite.
What TCP/IP product are you using? For general information, Google "REXEC". For specific information, see the documentation for your TCP/IP stack.

SolutionOpenVMS 5.5-2 and TCP/IP 4.0 are rather dated (circa mid 1990's). The current VAX version is 7.3 for OpenVMS; the corresponding TCP/IP release would be one of the 5.x releases.
For the details of REXEC on that version, dig out the manuals for TCP/IP.
