Re: Screenshots of OpenVMS?

This is how one normally works on OpenVMS.
If you want to get a 'look and feel' for the OpenVMS DECwindows GUI, have a look at the Common Desktop Environment (CDE) documentation at:
http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/decwin16.html
For some GUI examples, look at the 'Getting Started with the New Desktop' manual.

Re: Screenshots of OpenVMS?
Have a look through the OpenVMS users guide:
http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/731FINAL/6489/6489PRO.HTML
It's a great, powerful, stable o/s with a command line interface that makes sense!
Cheers,
Art

Re: Screenshots of OpenVMS?
Get (free) access to the Deathrow or the Encompasserve systems. With a local X Windows Server and a decent-sized network pipe, you can ssh into Deathrow and run remote X Windows. Get this access yourself.
Get SIMH (free) and load it onto a Windows or Mac OS X or other box, and load OpenVMS onto it. Get access to OpenVMS VAX through emulation.
Get into a class or skim the manuals you have downloaded (start with the User's Guide, and then work your way into the System Management or Programming Concepts manuals) or utilize the various tutorial sites referenced in the OpenVMS FAQ, or use whatever combination is your preferred approach toward learning.
If you want to see what the DECwindows workstation display look like, there are screen shots in the http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/732final/6469/6469PRO.HTML
Getting Started manual.
Get your own screen shots, and gain direct experience doing so. You have to stick your toe into the operating system and the command language sooner or later. Might as well be sooner. Get (free) access. Go log in. Learn. Gain the trust of your manager and your IT staff. Welcome!

As was already mentioned, many uses of OpenVMS only use a terminal connection, and of course, the above screenshot also has a DECterm window.
