SDA>CLUE CONFIG...

Hi there,
when i do a command SDA>CLUE CONFIG
it displays many system HW information including "Adapter Configuration:"
which number is the physical PCI slot number?is it the first line"TR"?

thanks

Re: SDA>CLUE CONFIG...

No, I think the column named 'ADP Slot' contains the PCI slotnumber, but note, that many systems have mutliple PCI busses, which may be 'interleaved', so you have to consult your hardware documentation to locate the slots on the backplane.

Re: SDA>CLUE CONFIG...

Kalle,
attached is the picture for the output.
in "ADP", there is no slot information there.
but there is a "slot" column which i highlight with RED. but i donot believe this is the physical PCI slot location because i see some cards are "15","16"(we have only 10 slots)
could you find the physical slot number from the picture?
thanks!

Re: SDA>CLUE CONFIG...

Davor,

the way I've worked with the CLUE CONFIG output in the past is to locate interfaces which are neighbors on the PCI bus. If you look at the back of your system and compare the physical sequence of the interfaces with the CLUE CONFIG output, you should be able to figure out the which is which.

Note that EIA0/EIB0 may be 2 ports on the SAME PCI card !

Re: SDA>CLUE CONFIG...

Hi Volker,

attached is the description from ES40 owner guide. there are 10 physical slots and mapped with PCI0/1.
my question is, SDA>CLUE CONFIG displays "Slot 15", i'm confused with this "15" which is larger than the capacity of "10"... how come?

Re: SDA>CLUE CONFIG...

Davor,

on our ES40 system slot 15 is labeled "ACER 5229 IDE Controller". That's an on-board device that does not take a PCI slot.

Re: SDA>CLUE CONFIG...

thanks Martin.

i looked into the CLUE CONFIG output with the physical environment here.
in PCI slot 10, we have a network card.
but i cannot find the logical slot(PCI-1,Slot6) matched with this one...
i have to doubt the information accuracy from CLUE CONFIG...

Re: SDA>CLUE CONFIG...

Davor,

there may be another level of mapping done by the console level between the actual HW config and what OpenVMS is seeing.

You can also look at what the console reports during init (as extracted from DIAGNOSE CLUE$FRU.SYS).

With the output of CLUE CONFIG, >>> SHOW CONFIG and the view of the back of your system, you should be able to figure it out...

Volker.

PS: Sorry, I posted this incorrectly to your other thread regarding the CSMACD errors.

Davor,

>>>

<<<

The table I have here (from OARS - Onsite Agents Reference Set) says:

Phys. slot Log.slot
PCI bus 0:
1 (top slot) 1
2 2
3 3
4 4
- 7
PCI bus 1:
5 1
6 2
7 3
8 4
9 5
10 (bottom slot) 6

So phys.slot 10 <-> log.slot 1-6 matches.

Re: SDA>CLUE CONFIG...

Davor,

[network card in phys. slot 10]

The output from CLUE CONFIG you posted says it's EIB:

the clue extension is documented (as much as it is anyway)

Re: SDA>CLUE CONFIG...

Martin,
the EIB logical slot in my previous attached picture is "5" not "6".
logical "5" <-> physical "9" not "10"

am i right?

Err... yes, you're right. Sorry.

Miller, thanks
it seems it's a FTP document library... :)

the document cannot be recognized from it's name.
how can i get to the INDEX for all the documents? "http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/" is a search page.

Re: SDA>CLUE CONFIG...

Davor,

you've carefully erased the last column of the CLUE CONFIG output ;-)

What kind of LAN network card is this ? If it's a DE602, there are 2 network connections on one PCI card.

Re: SDA>CLUE CONFIG...

Volker,
sorry for my careful erase :)
the last column is "DE602-AA i82558 100BaseTX", and yes, i believe it's 2 network ports on one PCI card.

--->
the logical slot from the picture for those 2 ports are "4" and "5" (PCI-1)
it means the physical slot should be "Slot8"and"Slot9"
<---
but my question is:
1) they are TWO slots(if one PCI with 2 ports, it should be in one slot)
2) i looked into the backplane of the machine, the slot8 is N/A, slot9 is not network card. the possible slot should be slot10.

ABOVE 2 POINTS ARE NOT MATCHED WITH THE THEORY ENCLOSED BY ---> <---

Re: SDA>CLUE CONFIG...

Davor,

if your HW config is not a secret and you are interested in finding out your config, could you:

- provide the full CLUE CONFIG output as a text attachment
- provide the DIAG CLUE$FRUE.SYS output (the part about the console device messages during init)
- a little ASCII drawing of the actual devices in your PCI slots

Then we can see, if we can figure out the information regarding the PCI slot mapping...

Volker.
