Re: tape library TL891 DLX
please specify:
- OS version (including paches)
- ROBOT version
- controller type, and firmware revision level
so we can better answer your question.
Proost.
Have one on me (maybe in May in Nashua?)

Solutionis this a new installation/configuration ? Did it ever work before ?
When using the ROBOT utility, you could define a logical $ DEFINE MRU_VERBOSE 1 to obtain more information (verbose output).
What does ROBOT SHOW ROBOT GKB0 report ?

Re: tape library TL891 DLX
$ Robot Show Version
for the MRU (i.e., ROBOT) release and
$ Robot Show Robot
for the library's version. Of course, if the robot is not responding, you might not get anywhere. I have found this to happen occasionally. Have you power cycled the library? It should report the F/W at startup. Also, there is a Maint menu with error logs you can access to see if it is reporting a problem on the library/drive itself.

Re: tape library TL891 DLX
What I mean is, if you have a software support contract with HP for OpenVMS, call them for assistance too !
AND, if you have a hardware support contract covering the TL891, call HP hardware support as well (maybe the software specialist will do that for you).
I always remind my remote sites to not hesitate to call Support for a real problem (instead of calling me first!) as we pay for the service and should not feel guilty about using it :-)
Of course I understand your posting here may be just to get a better feeling for your issue and ideas on how to proceed ... very good.
...with all due respect to you and the other readers ...
Sincerely,
Verne
