Upgrade tcpip from 5.3 - 5.4

I am planning to upgrade a server from OpenVMS 7.3-1 to 7.3-2. Along with that I will be installing the 7.3-2 patches. I would also like to upgrade from tcpip 5.3 ECO 2 to 5.4 ECO 5.

In order to do this, I don't think I can just apply the 5.4 ECO which I downloaded. I think I need to install 5.4 first and then patch it with the ECO???

Let me know.

Re: Upgrade tcpip from 5.3 - 5.4

That's right. According to PRODUCT SHOW
PRODUCT /FULL, "DEC AXPVMS TCPIP V5.4-15" is
a "Full LP", while "DEC AXPVMS TCPIP_ECO
V5.4-155" is under "MAINTENANCE". I assume
that the patch kit will refuse installation,
if you try it.

The VMS upgrade procedure should offer
(perhaps demand) a TCPIP upgrade along the
way. It's on the same CD as VMS V7.3-2,
right?

Re: Upgrade tcpip from 5.3 - 5.4

Mike,

find here the TCPIP V5.4 ECO 5 release notes, and its dependancies...

http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/patchDetail.do?BC=patch.breadcrumb.main|patch.breadcrumb.search|patch.breadcrumb.patchDetail{DEC-AXPVMS-TCPIP_ECO-V0504-155-4,openvms:alpha:7.3-2}|&patchid=DEC-AXPVMS-TCPIP_ECO-V0504-155-4&context=openvms:alpha:7.3-2

You need seperate lic for TCPIP V5.4 then you can upgrade to ECO 5.

If you have OpenVMS 7.3-2 media, you can find TCPIP V5.4 in that, but you need a seperate TCPIP V5.4 lic.

Re: Upgrade tcpip from 5.3 - 5.4

Mike one more thing,

If you have installed any of TCPIP V5.3 EAKs, then you will first have to REMOVE those EAKs before moving to TCPIP V5.4.

If he downloaded the patch, as he said he
did, is he likely not to have the release
notes for it? (Hint: They're _in_ the kit,
as well as _near_ the kit on the FTP server.)

Of course, the "UCX" PAK(s) currently in use
for TCPIP V5.3 ECO 2 will still work. No
"seperate" anything is needed. (Actual
_licenses_ for new versions are distinct
from the PAK(s), however.)

He did say "5.3 ECO 2". Does that sound
like an EAK?

But if any of that was actually helpful,
it's ok by me.

Re: Upgrade tcpip from 5.3 - 5.4

Is this a cluster or single system? If you're using a TCPIP cluster alias, this has been replaced in TCPIP 5.4 by failSAFE IP.

If you're in a multi CPU system, you should review the release notes at http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/732FINAL/TCP_RN/TCP_RNPRO.HTML and consider the scalable kernel. This is optional in TCPIP 5.4, in 5.5 this becomes the standard.

Re: Upgrade tcpip from 5.3 - 5.4

Mike,

I thought you may have EAK for SSH in your env as there were so many SSH issues/(bugs?) even after ECO 3 release. Incase you have EAK for SSH or failSAFE IP, you will have to REMOVE those EAK before you go for V5.4 as these EAK problems are solved in V5.4.

Re: Upgrade tcpip from 5.3 - 5.4

I must admit, I have never heard of an EAK before, but then I am not running SSH so that may be why. I thank you all for the answers and I will follow up on the release notes.

The new license thing was confusing me for a minute, I was pretty sure the current license should still work so thanks for that update.

Re: Upgrade tcpip from 5.3 - 5.4

Mike,

from your Forum Profile:

I have assigned points to 88 of 120 responses to my questions.

Maybe you can find some time to do some assigning?

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/helptips.do?#33

Mind, I do NOT say you necessarily need to give lots of points. It is fully up to _YOU_ to decide how many. If you consider an answer is not deserving any points, you can also assign 0 ( = zero ) points, and then that answer will no longer be counted as unassigned.
Consider, that every poster took at least the trouble of posting for you!

To easily find your streams with unassigned points, click your own name somewhere.
This will bring up your profile.
Near the bottom of that page, under the caption "My Question(s)" you will find "questions or topics with unassigned points " Clicking that will give all, and only, your questions that still have unassigned postings.

Thanks on behalf of your Forum colleagues.

PS. - nothing personal in this. I try to post it to everyone with this kind of assignment ratio in this forum. If you have received a posting like this before - please do not take offence - none is intended!

Proost.

Have one on me.

Re: Upgrade tcpip from 5.3 - 5.4

I must say, I am very careful to assign points to all my questions. If there are any unassigned I am the most surprised of all. I will check back as you said, but I always "intend" to assign.

No offense taken!!
