Re: VAX 4105A Power On self test failure
For diagnosing hardware faults, you're better off logging a case with HP Customer Support. The decision tree is far too deep to do a proper diagnosis in a forum.
On the other hand, you could run UETP to stress your system and see if any errors get logged.

Re: VAX 4105A Power On self test failure
Not wanting to sound repetitive or retentive, but is this the Vax_41xx that has been suffering from the Halt_Restarts, that we have been trying to isolate with both Rajarshi and yourself?
If this is the same Vax, then as a few of us have mentioned earlier, (Volker, myself, etc.) this self-test would continue to point to a Hardware-Problem, if it is TGEV01.
Even if this Vax4100 is not the same system as the Halt_Restarts, this Self-Test failure is either a hardware problem or configuration issue -- such as mis-matched speeds between Ethernet-Adapter and Network Switch/Hub...
Does the local HP-Services have a Service Manual on site, that will give a write-up on the Self-Test Error-Codes?
Thanx,

Re: VAX 4105A Power On self test failure
here is a pointer to the VAX 4000 Model 105A Troubleshooting and Diagnostics manual:
http://cmcnabb.cc.vt.edu/dec94mds/515abtsb.txt
Does >>> SHOW CONF show any errors ?
What is the full text of the error for test number 23 ?
Entering >>> T 9E will print a list of all available tests.
Volker.

Re: VAX 4105A Power On self test failure
This is a separate development box of same 4100 series. As it has booted now successfully, we are not in a position to shutdown it again. So, next time I will post the error message if it comes.
Volker,
Thanks for the Troubleshooting and Diagnostics manual

Re: VAX 4105A Power On self test failure
From your Forum Profile:
I have assigned points to 23 of 91 responses to my questions.
Maybe you can find some time to do some assigning?
Mind, I do NOT say you necessarily need to give lots of points. It is fully up to _YOU_ to decide how many. If you consider an answer is not deserving any points, you can also assign 0 ( = zero ) points, and then that answer will no longer be counted as unassigned.
Consider, that every poster took at least the trouble of posting for you!
To easily find your streams with unassigned points, click your own name somewhere.
This will bring up your profile.
Near the bottom of that page, under the caption â My Question(s)â you will find â questions or topics with unassigned points â Clicking that will give all, and only, your questions that still have unassigned postings.
Thanks on behalf of your Forum colleagues.
PS. â nothing personal in this. I try to post it to everyone with this kind of assignment ratio in this forum. If you have received a posting like this before â please do not take offence â none is intended!
Proost.
Have one on me.
