VAXstation 4000/60 Locked Up
my DECterm session on my VAX which runs OpenVMS 6.2 has locked up and I am not able to type the shutdown command to reboot my system. What causes the DECterm session to lock up and how do I restart my system?

Re: VAXstation 4000/60 Locked Up
Hello Wanda,
without further details it is difficult to establish the cause of the hang. It might be a quota issue, but this is pure speculation.
Other ways to get into the system:
1.) set host /telnet from another system on the network
2.) Since you are running old versions Ctrl-Shift-F2 might bring you to console mode from Xwindows.
3.) Worst case: Power-cycle the system. This is not the preferred solution, but a stop-gap measure. Luckily VMS is generally pretty good at recovering from crashs.
Greetings, Martin

Re: VAXstation 4000/60 Locked Up
A VAXstation 4000/60 has a halt button behind a small pull down cover on the right hand lower edge of the VAX. The button is square with a triangle in a circle symbol above it. If you can not connect to the VAXstation any other way you can halt the VAX and force a crash dump to be analysed.
To force a crash enter the follow cryptic chant at the >>> console prompt and note the resulting numbers.
>>>E PSL
>>>E/I 0
>>>E +
>>>E +
>>>E +
>>>E +
>>>D PC FFFFFFFF
>>>D PSL 1F0000
