Re: What VMS systems are you managing ?

I'm still wining with the oldest version of VMS
V5.2 on a VAX3300!
It doesn't do much but is still running

Ian, I would hold off saying that until we hear from Steve...if it's a vintage MicroVAX II could very well be running v4.something .

Art & Ian,

read Steven's entry once again.
He already stated 5.2.

Cheers.

Re: What VMS systems are you managing ?

I already wrote that I no longer work as a system (da)manager...

In my last job I was responsible for a group of 6 small clusters (2 servers + 2-4 VAXstations) and some stand alone systems scattered over Germany.

While that was a full-time position, I did automate, so I was able to work on other interesting projects like writing some tools to assist out database administrator (famous last words: Uwe, I need the D5901 database restored...).

Long time no foruming....

DS10, 20, 25
ES40, 45, 47
GS160/320
GS1280

225 Alphaserver Consoles on 120 OS packs.
Average per client is 2-node Prod cluster with 1 node Non-Prod.

4 in the Infrastructure group providing 24x7 on-call PROD support for the VMS OS and hardware.

There are also about 15-20 system managers that maintain the Application.

They are in the process of splitting the SAN/Storage management off to other folks.

We decommisioned an VAX 8250 with 4.4 in 1999. What a pitty ...
It was up so long that everyone had forgotten it. It wasn't even in the inventory.

Reminds me about Y2K when companies ran a full inventory on their stuff - we got calls from customers who discovered forgotten systems during 4Q99.

Re: What VMS systems are you managing ?

You are correct about Steven Underwood and his MVII running V5.2 - I had not spotted it previously.

There was a MicroVAX II around here until earlier this year - I don't know what version of VMS as its gone now. I think the Science Museum in London had a MicroVAX II at one time.
