36 GB Disk Drive Support on KZPAC-CC with Alphaserver 4000

[Firmenich support]

Hardware : Alphaserver 4000 with KZPAC-CC Controller.

Software: Tru64 Unix V5.1

I'm planning to add some 36 GB SBB drive for this KZPAC-CC configuration.

It already has Logical Drives configured with 4 and 9 GB SBB Physical Drives.

I checked with local HP Support and the response is only 4 and 9 Gb drives are supported and 18/36 GB are not. That is if you call HP for a problem later, HP won't support.
But has anybody used 18/36GB disk drives on a KZPAC-CC and what's the feedback.

Can you please also let me know :

1. If 36 GB Physical Drive is really not a supported option ?

2. If it is okay to mix 4, 9 and 36 GB Drives with one KZPAC-CC ?

3. What is the limit of the maximum size of ONE logical drive with a KZPAC-CC ?

4. Am Also targeting an OS upgrade to V5.1B and i see that for V5.1B Alphaserver 4000 is in the supported hardware list. So I'm fine. But is there any console firmware level gotchas ( I'm running console version 6.0 )

Hi,

I have tested it with 36GB but the limit for a logical drive is 32GB so I had to split the drive in two. It works but it will be on your own risk.

I got the same response from HP Support also.

I'm going to rather hook-up to SAN for DATA storage keeping in mind the AS4000 Supported options and limitations.
