DEGPA-TA Gigabit card - turning off auto-negotiate, and setting LAN speed

Hi,

We have a DEGPA-TA - UTP Gigabit card installed in our Alpha system ES45. When we boot Tru64UNIX v5.1A, it does not auto-negotiate the LAN speed correctly. It should be 1000, but it only negotiates 100. Is there a way to switch off auotnegotiate, and set the speed manually ?

In our other systems the card comes up as disabled, and we have to enable it from the OS. It then works correctly. Any ideas as to why this may be ?

With regards
Andrew

as written often in this forum:
1. lan_config
2. there is no console parameter
3. be sure switch is correctly set to autoneg

Re: DEGPA-TA Gigabit card - turning off auto-negotiate, and setting LAN speed

Hi,

Thank you for your response. I have done this , and it has worked, except that the LED on the back of the card stays on 100Mbit/Sec. It does not change to 1000Mbit/sec. Is this a known problem ?

have a look into the degpa-ta manual it will explain the led status of the card.

Re: DEGPA-TA Gigabit card - turning off auto-negotiate, and setting LAN speed

If your card is autonegotiating to 100Mbps when you expect it to run at 1000Mbps, you may have a weak connection point.

Try a different cable or a different port on the switch. Also make sure the cable is not passing near any noise sources. The card will typically negotiate to the highest speed possible. If it cannot operate at that highest speed, it will usually pick a lower speed.

Becareful when disabling autonegotiation. You should be able to do it with the degpa, but the degxa, for example, will ignore any attempts to disable auto at 1000Mbps.

Re: DEGPA-TA Gigabit card - turning off auto-negotiate, and setting LAN speed

Make sure that the port in the switch that the system is connected to is not set into a specific value, this way, you will let the switch and NIC card auto negotiate together the speed.
Also consider checking the network cable.
