DEGPA-TA not recognised in DS20e
Manually installed the nhd3 kit, to get the "ee" driver working, and patchkit8 but the degpa not recognised :-(
At the console a "show config" recognises the DEGPA-TA, but at boot it says unknown in PCI table, looked in /etc/sysconfigtab and the PCIV/PCID entries in there look like only a DEGPA-SA, not a DEGPA-TA
I sneakily edited a copy of the PCIV/PCID entries by hand to match the actual card, the "alt" driver then complains that the card is a DEGPA-TA not a DEGPA-TA
I looked at earlier threads concerning DEGPA cards and they refer to a patch OSFPAT001111 contained within PK4, I looked in the "kit" directory within my PK8 tree and can't see this patch, or any that appear to supercede it based on the SSRT numbers, I also looked on ITRC for patch1111 with no joy, should patch1111 be contained in PK8? Where should I get it (or it's replacemnt) from?
Thanks for any pointers ....

Re: DEGPA-TA not recognised in DS20e
please look here:
http://h18002.www1.hp.com/alphaserver/options/asds20e/asds20e_%20%20-degpa-ta.html
It should work. Is the firmware uptodate and did you consider the following restriction?
For UNIX:
During installation of DEGPA driver, only one adapter per PCI bus allowed. After installing target kernel, additional adapters may be installed on same PCI bus. Rebuilding kernel not necessary.
greetings
Michael

Re: DEGPA-TA not recognised in DS20e
The page http://h18002.www1.hp.com/alphaserver/options/asds20e/asds20e_%20%20-degpa-ta.html
you refer to looks promising ... until the link from there shown as DUV40FAS0006-20010620.tar doesn't actually link to that file, but to one of the dec->compaq->hp "decoy support" pages, and the trail goes cold, can't find anything similar via the ITRC search page :-(
Also the .tar file above is shown as part of PK6/BL17 and yet I've already installed PK8/BL22, shouldn't these be cumulative?
Oh, why can't all the old files just be left on a FTP server, we're all old and wise enough to find what we want, rather than having this supposedly enhanced web front-end wrapped around them?
Thanks anyway ;-)

Re: DEGPA-TA not recognised in DS20e
Thanks to the ozzie DEC-heads for preserving all the good old stuff on their servers which the american and europeans have apparently wiped from theirs!
I won't be able to try to load the PK6 that I've just found until monday, I'm a bit concerned now about the order of patching, is it safe to apply PK6 after PK8? Or should I undo PK8 first, then put on PK6, then put PK8 back? Or should I just extract the OSFPAT001111 part and manually setld it?
Further insight appreciated ....

Re: DEGPA-TA not recognised in DS20e
If you have something on your system that prevents the complete installation of pk8 such as a point patch, it would be best to deinstall that component prior to installing pk8.
I do know that the NHD kit was a bear to install and caused many headaches for customers as well as those of us that had to support it.

Re: DEGPA-TA not recognised in DS20e
But I even looked at the files in the actual kit directory and couldn't see the OSFPAT001111 files, or anything to supercede them, nothing even grepped for degpa.
FWIW I didn't have any problem with the nhd3 once I found it, then again I didn't make a new install CD with it incorporated, just tarred the extracted kit across (via tape from a 4.0E server because the ee driver was not available at that point, and iso9660 cd-r didn;t seem to agree with it) and did a manual setld to get it on, added the ee driver to my conf file and rebuilt.
Fingers crossed for monday, thanks for responses ...

Re: DEGPA-TA not recognised in DS20e
Does anyone know what exactly what patch number from what patch kit is required for DEGPA-TA?

Re: DEGPA-TA not recognised in DS20e
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/10445_na/10445_na.html
"DEGPA-TA: PCI (32-/64-bit, 33-/66-MHz) single-port 10/100/1000 (UTP/RJ45) Gigabit NIC, copper; no on-board Boot-ROM support.
NOTES:
Requires minimum version of Tru64 UNIX V5.0A, Patch kit 2: T64V50AAS0002-20001004.tar
The page that Michael suggested indicates it will work, and has the cute note about 1 per system during install.
How about genvmunix? can it talk to it?
In some HP internal notes I found there was at one point a the problem with a missing symbolic link in /usr/sys/BINARY to /sys/BINARY/alt.mod
In an other note I read that the DEGPA-TA has more current requirements than most other interfaces and is more sensitive to placement. Like in the ES45 slot 5, 7 and 8 are off limits. On hunch, I would suspect slot-1 in an DS20E may be a problem. What PIC slot do you use, have you tried other slots?
fwiw,
Hein.

Re: DEGPA-TA not recognised in DS20e
I Have UNIX 4.0.F with patch 6.
I installed the DEGPA-TA and it isn´t reconised on the console. I do show dev and it doesn't Appear. I also have another Network card installed which came with the machine it is a 10/100MB and it has a scsi controler for the DAT.
I don't know which firmware it has but where can I download the lastest firmware for a DS20E??
Thanks
