Digital Unix 4.0E
Panic! ftx_fail_2,LGR_READ FAILED!
N1=-1064
It will not boot up to mulit user mode. I can boot to singleuser. I have rebuilt the system disk. Replaced all parts except for Memory DIMMS and Dual port SCSI 'Turbo channel' board (because I do not have these in my spares depot). Does anyone know what the error means or a site that I can look up the error? Is there something else I should try? Any help is greatly appreciated. I really need to get this system back up. Thanks in advance!

Re: Digital Unix 4.0E
The system should have been patched long ago. The situation may be hopeless, but if you can apply a patch, go for it.

Re: Digital Unix 4.0E
Did the system crash hard or get powered off before you attempted to reboot?
Also, one of the patches mentions FS corruption if a "rm" command was being processed when the system crashed.
Do you have more than one disk and are all funcutional?
All of the information I've seen point at the Filesytem being corrupt, and it appears that it mught by some kind of replay log used when fsck'ing the systems.
Can you manually mount the file systems and check them?
You *may* have to rebuild from backups.....
All of the above are guestimates based solely on the error message posted and the urls listed above.
good luck....

Re: Digital Unix 4.0E
Just an FYI in case anyone else should ever have the problem. I did rebuild the system disk four times from four different backups. I had my hardware guy turn off the storage towers and unplug them from the system. They are connected via the second port on the scsi card. Tried to boot it started doing a bus reset. He terminated the second port and the system came up. We are having the part overnighted to us. Thanks again!!
