Installing Tru64 v.5.1B on AlphaServer DS10

I've got just a simple question,
I have installed on AlphaServer DS10
version 5.1A of Tru64 Unix.
Is version 5.1B intended for such a system,
are there known some problems when
doing such an upgrade?

That'll work just fine.

5.1B just has a number of fixes and some modest (imho) new functionallity.

Personally I find the 'big page' support the most interesting, but that is less relevant for a DS10, more intended for the large boxes with lots of (shared) memory running Oracle and the likes.

Check the release notes for details on new features.

there are several topics with the same question about DS10 and 5.1A/5.1B.

Please use the search function to get the answer, there is only limited support for that machine and not all hardware will be supported with 5.1A.

Mart,

As people already said read the release notes for 5.1B to find the differences between 5.1A and 5.1B. Unless you find some new functionality in 5.1B that you are interested in and want to have, I wouldn't bother upgrading to it. And if you do decide to go to V5.1B, do yourself a favor and backup anything that you need from the current system disk, perform new, fresh install, and then restore back. If you have any other disks with data you can use advscan to locate AdvFS volumes on disk devices.

HTH,
Ross
