Intel NIC on AlphaServer ES47
Hello,
We have ES47 with preinstalled 3 DEGXA Broadcom NICs identified by system as bcm0, bcm1 and bcm2. One is copper gigabit, rest two are fibre w/ LC connector.
We decided to remove two fibre NICs and relpace them with one Intel PRO/1000 MF Server Adapter which is fibre w/ SC connector.
I took out two Broadcom fibre NICs and put an Intel card in place of one of them.
After system boots I saw only one network interface - copper Broadcom which I did not touched as bcm1.
Also green lights came on two LEDs situated next to the card.
1. Does Tru64 5.1B support Intel Pro/1000 adapters?
2. If yes what steps should I take to install it?
3. What do the LEDs identify?
Also, it seems like system still think that bcm adapters present because my single adapter is bcm1 not bcm0 and:
# hwmgr -show name

Re: Intel NIC on AlphaServer ES47
Hello,
To answer to the first question:
1. Does Tru64 5.1B support Intel Pro/1000 adapters?
NO, i don't think that this NIC adapter is supported on Tru64 unix.
Intel Pro/1000 supported Operating Systems:
Windows NT 4.0 and 2000
NetWare 4.11 through 6 (Server adapters only)
Linux 2.2.x and 2.4 (Server adapters only)
UnixWare 7.x and Open UNIX 8 (Server adapters only)
MS-DOS
Hope it helps,
Albertino Cortes

Re: Intel NIC on AlphaServer ES47
the HP network cards uses Intel chips, that is right. But it is very unprofessional to plug the card into the machine not looking if it is really supported and if the production id matches the correct supported option.
there is a supported option list available for every machine ask your dealer or HP.
If using a card not supported leads to an unsupported configuration!
