NIC Error in /var/adm/messages tru64 4.0

Can anyone throw some light in this error..

Oct 12 02:17:00 hostname vmunix: tu1: link up: negotiated 100BaseTX: full duplex
Oct 12 02:19:50 hostname vmunix: tu1: link up: negotiated 100BaseTX: full duplex

I am getting this error 3-4 time per day.

server details are ..
#sizer -v
Compaq Tru64 UNIX V5.1A (Rev. 1885); Sat Aug 2 18:41:13 MEST 2003

ifconfig shows
tu1: flags=c63
inet 192.168.0.1 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 192.168.0.255 ipmtu 1500

Disable the auto-negotiation at the switch and the network adapter.

set _mode fastfd

This may solve the problem.

This isn't necessarily an error. It is simply telling you that the device renegotiated the links speed/duplex with the switch port. If it is happening all through the day/night at short intervals, it may indicate a problem in the physical media or with the nic or port.

But if it occurs just a few times in a day, it shouldn't be anything to be concerned with. Check to make sure you aren't logging errors with netstat -i.

Disabling autonegotiation and moving to static configurations may only hide a problem that should be addressed, particularly if it is affecting daily operations.

Hi,

we have many of these tulip cards in use and they can not handle auto negotiation very well. Especially the transfer rate between alpha is terrible unless we set it to fix.
