Reset NIS password

Is there any other way other than manually editing the /var/yp/src/passwd file in order to reset a users forgetten password.

Re: Reset NIS password

Hi Mike,

have you tried it like in network administration prescribed?

greetings,

Michael

To change a userâ s password in the NIS passwd map, use the yppasswd
command. If you receive an error message, ask the system administrator
on the master server to verify that the rpc.yppasswdd daemon on the
NIS master server is running.

Re: Reset NIS password

For V5.* the root user on the NIS master can change a user's password (including NIS users) using the dxaccounts GUI or usermod. I'm not sure if this will work on V4.0G, but it's certainly worth a try. You could also try running yppasswd as root on the NIS master. If you're running Enhanced Security, the root user could use the passwd command on the NIS master to change a NIS user's password.

Re: Reset NIS password

Thanks for your replies.
Changing it using yppasswd requires the old password. But using dxaccounts allows you to change it without the old password.
