return: Can only `return' from a function

when I set the environment to access the application using xterm windows, i am not able to access it.i get the message"return: Can only `return' from a function" , can anyone advice please.

What, exactly, did you do?

Not obvious to me:

1. How did you "set the environment"?

2. What is "the application"?

3. What you did do to "get the message"?

Possibly interesting:

1. OS version.

2. Which shell you use.

hi,
I am working on tru64 v 5 , the application is a used for mediation,i used setv x- x is the env ,also i am using humming bird exceed to access the application (xterm windows), it was working fine this afternoon, later there was a problem with the swap space it was just 2% available.i closed the application , then i tried to proceed with the normal method,now i am not able to access the environment

This means:

1. Show any actual commands which you used.
Don't offer vague descriptions, show the
actual commands.

2. If you edited any files, identify the
files, and show the actual changes. Don't
offer vague descriptions, show exactly what
you changed.

And what does that mean, exactly?

And what does that mean, exactly?

If you can't describe what you are doing,
and what happens when you do it, then perhaps
you should ask someone who can see what you
are doing, and what happens when you do it.
