SDLT Tape I/0 error

Hi

I have true 64 5.1b with SDLT 320 installed .Does the SDLT tape support forwarding. When i type the following command "mt fsf 2 /dev/ntape/tape0" to foward to another fileset ,it give an error saying I/0 error on tape device .I can backup and restore the last fileset. What do i need to do next.
