Telnet failure to a Unixware 7 server

Hi

Since the server was installed we have been failing to telnet it from any other computer.

What could be causing this failure.
Please help.

Thanks
Bonnie.

Re: Telnet failure to a Unixware 7 server

What is the error you get? Connection refused? Timeout? Session hang?

This could be because the service is not enabled, or the name resolution is not working.
Por que hacerlo dificil si es posible hacerlo facil? - Why do it the hard way, when you can do it the easy way?

Re: Telnet failure to a Unixware 7 server

Hi Ivan
The Error we get is Unable to connect to remote host connection timedout. This infact started after the name of the same was changed from the inital name using the command uname -S. Iam sure it could be failing to resolve the name. Where exactly should I check.

Re: Telnet failure to a Unixware 7 server

Can you state exactly as to what you changed and what you are trying (including the commands)?

Re: Telnet failure to a Unixware 7 server

The Intial setup of the server had a different Nodename.ie Hqmain and due to the fact that there was another server with the same name which was resulting in conflicts we had to change the name of the server using uname -S hqback. The node name changed however a new problem was created and this problem is the failure to telnet to the same server from any computer on the network. This was the source of the problem.
I hope this clear.
What should be checked to solve this problem.

Re: Telnet failure to a Unixware 7 server

I am not sure if 'uname -S' would update all the necessary files. Do the change reflect in files like /etc/hosts, /etc/rc.config?
