tru64 box content

Hi,

After some hassle I finally got a hold on a box with Tru64. However there is something, which is odd.

The documentation and the label on the associated products say 5.1B-1
The label on the operating system cd says 5.1B
I also have a PK3 cd.
Since I do not see PKs for 5.1B-1, may I assume, that PKs are the same for both releases?

thanks for any info,

Michael

Re: tru64 box content

5.1B-1 is a minor update of 5.1B if you mean the real Tru64 version. There are some enhancements and fixes. Installing a patchkit of 5.1B (without -1) is not a valid option in this case for 5.1B-1.

But if you mean the associated product cd, maybe it is a label mistake or typo.

Re: tru64 box content

Ravi, Ralf,

assoc. products are both labelled version 5.1B-1, while opereting system and PK3 are labelled version 5.1B

is that a mix up?

Re: tru64 box content

Hi Michael

I don't think it's mix up.

since both associated product Media are labled as 5.1B-1, it's for OS 5.1B-1 only.

5.1B is base 5.1B OS and Pk3 is for 5.1B os

Re: tru64 box content

Ravi,

do you have 5.1B-1?
Is the cd operating system for 5.1B-1 supposed to be just labelled 5.1B?

that's my question.

Michael

Re: tru64 box content

Micahel

5.1B-1 is 5.1B OS with Pk1, the associated products media that you are referring are for 5.1B-1 OS and not for 5.1B OS

Ralf,

can you confirm that?

Re: tru64 box content

V5.1B-1 is just a REPACKAGING of V5.1B for shipment with DS15 systems and other hardware that requires NHD7.
The OS CD is exactly the same in V5.1B and V5.1B-1.
There is no difference between V5.1B with patchkit#3 installed, and V5.1B-1 with the same patchkit#3 from the CD in the box.

The differences come from the NHD7 CD and the addition or more recent version of some software on the Associated Products CD's like the HP-UX manpages.

If you do not have hardware that requires the NHD7 CD then V5.1B-1 is equal to V5.1B+patchit#3.

For a more complete overview on what ships in V5.1B and what's new on the Associated Products CD's see:

Re: tru64 box content

Hi,

yesterday I installed the os on a ds20. When it came to the worldwide language support and it requested the associated products cd 1, I inserted it and it complained, that it is not the right CD.

So my question is still open.

thanks for any idea,

Michael

Solution

Re: tru64 box content

Michael,

This is a known problem (known to me as of today :).

You can contact HP Services for a replacement APCD1.

The workaround is to perform the base installation in English, then perform the Worldwide Language Support installation. Once this is complete you can change the language default setting.

Thanks.

Re: tru64 box content

Hi Greg,

thanks for your answer. Since I did not get any satisfying answer here, I opened a call with HP. Is that the cause, you heard from it? I installed another machine today and with the APCD1 of 5.1B it did not complain. I just hope, it is ok. Do you know the reason for that. I still have to add the subsets for another machine. As Ralf uses to say, RTFM, I could dig through it, but maybe you could give me a hint how to do it quickly. BTW, are you the future moderator of this forum?

thanks,

Re: tru64 box content

Michael,

I remembered this thread and saw an internal memo today that triggered my memory. :)

I believe the reason it worked when you installed from a V5.1B (no "-1") is that the V5.1B + APCD1 combo was correct (volume label-wise). The problem as I understand it is that the mount of that CD fails, because the logical volume label does not match what the installation procedure expects. In other words V5.1B + APCD1 is good but V5.1B + APCD1 (from V5.1B-1 kit) is not.

I realize this is confusing. But the OS CDs are the same (regardless of whether we're talking about the V5.1B kit or the V5.1B-1 kit). The thing that's different is the APCD1. The APCD1 that comes with the V5.1B-1 kit is updated and apparently has a different logical label, thus the problem.

I hope this helps.

Oh... and yes, I am/have been a moderator/facilitator. There are several of us. I just haven't been very vocal. ;)

Re: tru64 box content

Hi Greg,

I could resolve the issue by mounting the APCD1 and using wwinstall to add the German subsets.

thanks,

Michael
