Use of DVD/CD-RW drive

Hello,
I have recently been installed a DVD/CD-RW drive on an AlphaStation XP1000 with Tru64 5.0A. I have no idea of using it.
Do I need install any specific software subset to manage it?
What are the commands or tools necessary to record data ?
Is there any user guide of this drive?

Can anybody help me ?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Use of DVD/CD-RW drive

Hi,

Ralf would say "XP1000" ain't no PC ;-). So you just can't install a dvd and think everything will work fine. I hope you have a user guide and have checked the dvd on the supported option list?
Otherwise check on console prompt whether machine can see it and on unix with
hwmgr -show comp
if it can be seen.
Try mounting it with a os disk inside.

greetings,

Re: Use of DVD/CD-RW drive

Thank you for your answer, Michael.
The device can be seen perfectly from console and also from unix.
BUT, I don't have User Guide. That is the reason I don't know how to use it.
I have been looking for such a guide in HP web, but I didn't find it.

Re: Use of DVD/CD-RW drive

Michael,

yes that's true - it always the same story, seems you understood it. It was a long way, isn't it? ;-)

But that's the funny side of the job, people using, installing and plugin things without thinking about support, problems and technical aspects.

the drive will be detected as normal readonly drive that's all. If it is listed within the supported option list as a supported read or write device it is time to update to a supported os version like 5.1A or 5.1B. latest software will be delivered with cdrom and dvd burning software but without support there is no way to get assistent....

I thought this forum was to help people in trouble, not to laugh at them.

Re: Use of DVD/CD-RW drive

For somebody else interested in the question, I have found a document that solves the problem:

" Tru64 UNIX Best Practice: Recording a Data CD-ROM"

It can be found in the web page
