What does OSF1 mean?

Hi, All:

I saw phrase "OSF1" from time to time in my system when I display system information. It seems it is some kind of disignation of the system name, anybody know what does it mean?

OSF stands for Open Source Foundation, one of the many attempts to create a unfied UNIX.
Digital Equipment Corp aka DEC was on of the initial startup members.

The UNIX operating system that came from DEC (Digital Equipment Corp) was first named DEC OSF/1 AXP, then renamed to Digital UNIX, then to Compaq Tru64 UNIX, and then to hp Tru64 UNIX.
Today still the OS identifies itself as OSF1 when asked with a tool like unama:

$ uname -s
OSF1

Is Tru64 an open source OS?

If not, how should DEC tag it as OSF1?

OSF = Open Software Foundation

NOT Open Source!!!

Open Software Foundation -- "OPEN" like in open standards.

OSF/1 is a registered trademark of the Open Software Foundation.

All the operating systems that comply with the OSF1 standards would have similarity in their commands and system calls. This is to ensure that users can easily use different OSF1 OSs without much issues.
