HPE DL380 Gen9 / ESXi 7.0.3 Build 20328353 / HPE-703.0.0.10.10.0.12-Oct2022-Addon-depo

Hello everybody,

upper mentioned HPE server is running VMware ESXi 7.0.3 Build 20328353 and the addon-package ...

HPE-703.0.0.10.10.0.12-Oct2022-Addon-depot.zip

... is installed as well. The system is fully patched with the most recent BIOS and Firmware versions. iLO 2.81 is activated as well.

Executing 'esxcli software vib list' reports that the following 'amsd' is installed ...

amsd 701.11.8.5.22-1OEM.701.0.0.16850804 HPE VMwareAccepted 2022-11-29

But unfortunately the iLO reports ...

Agentless Management Service => Not available

Anybody has the same behavior? I tried another 'amsd'-version from cp043232.zip (compatible with DL380 Gen9) but this didn't change the status in iLO.

What I also noticed is the removal of the smx-provider with the installation of ...

HPE-703.0.0.10.10.0.12-Oct2022-Addon-depot.zip

I noticed that VMware ESXi 7.x does not correctly report the storage devices under ...

Monitor => Hardware => Storage

... with the smx-provider installed (now it was removed with the latest addon-package) and now the CIM Broker daemon is not working at all.

Ok, I found the problem and solved it myself!

The problem is that with the installation of ...

HPE-703.0.0.10.10.0.12-Oct2022-Addon-depot

... the following components ...

amsdComponent       701.11.8.0.15-1   (amsdComponent: Agentless Management Service for Gen10 and Gen10Plus)

amshelprComponent   701.11.8.0.12-1   (amshelprComponent: Agentless Management Service for Gen9)

... from (HPE-703.0.0.10.9.1.5-Jul2022-Addon-depot) will be removed!

Instead the following component ...

amsdComponent      701.11.8.5.22-1   (amsdComponent: Agentless Management Service for Gen10 and Gen10Plus)

... will be installed!

But as with ...

HPE-703.0.0.10.9.1.5-Jul2022-Addon-depot

... the following component necessary for Gen9 systems ...

amshelprComponent

... is missing and will not be installed with (HPE-703.0.0.10.10.0.12-Oct2022-Addon-depot), so after a reboot iLO reports ...

Agentless Management Service

... Not available !!!

I don't know why HPE decided to remove (amshelprComponent), but you can add this component with an additional installation of ...

amshelprComponent_701.11.8.5.8-1_20773446.zip

This will add the necessary component for Gen9 systems (amshelprComponent: Agentless Management Service for Gen9) to re-activate the 'Agentless Management Service', if your system is not Gen10 or higher!

In my opinion it was not a wise decision from HPE to remove this Gen9 component from ...

HPE-703.0.0.10.10.0.12-Oct2022-Addon-depot

... but that's another story.

sorry for replying so late but I was very busy this week so far. I tried to find an easy routine to uninstall all components of the vib ...

HPE-703.0.0.11.2.0.9-Jan2023-Addon-depot.zip

... but couldn't find one, so I ended up by manually uninstalling all components of the vib by using ...

esxcli software vib remove -n <name of component>

Then i rebooted the ESXi server (DL380 Gen9) and installed ...

HPE-703.0.0.10.9.1.5-Jul2022-Addon-depot

That's it!

(The below picture shows components from the vib 'HPE-703.0.0.11.2.0.9-Jan2023-Addon-depot.zip' on a Gen10 server and 'amshelpr'-component is missing e.g. and I do not remember I removed 'hpe-upgrade' as well, so be careful)

(This is the list from the HPE DL380 Gen9 server with 'HPE-703.0.0.10.9.1.5-Jul2022-Addon-depot' installed and after cleaning up the the Jan2023 vib)
