HPE DL380 Gen9 + Intel X550-T2 network card on ESXi 7.0 U3
Dear All,
I have a strange issue with a HPE DL380 Gen9 servers ... and really want to find out a solution or a reason ...
Two Intel X550-T2 (dual port 10Gbit/s) network card has been added on to PCI-E Slot2/Slot3.
When I power on the server, I can see the network cards are okay and visible during the initial checks.
On the "Device inventory" I can see "Intel(R) Ethernet Converged Network Adapter X550-T2" on the PCI-E Slot2/Slot3.
Till this point, I am okay ... The links is up on the switch side also.
The adapters are connected into two different MikroTik CRS312-4C+8XG switch and the logs said:
"ether07 link up (speed 10G, full duplex)"
"ether08 link up (speed 10G, full duplex)"
After the VMware ESXi 7.0 U3 boot up, the links still on 10Gbit/s, but if I check "Device inventory" again on the iLO, I can see "Gigabit CT2 Desktop Adapter" instead of Intel(R) Ethernet Converged Network Adapter X550-T2" !?!?
iLO version is on the latest: 2.81
BIOS version also on the latest version: P89 v3.02
ixgben driver version: 1.13.1.0-1OEM.700.1.0.15843807
VMware version: HPE-Custom-AddOn_703.0.0.10.9.1-5
There is no problem with the network speed, because I can reach the ~10Gbit/s, but I would like to know what is happen here?
Is somebody facing or saw the same issue before?
Many thanks for the feedback!

Re: HPE DL380 Gen9 + Intel X550-T2 network card on ESXi 7.0 U3
Hello,
If the card is detected in the server's BIOS, and the operating system has network traffic without any issues, then the nomenclature displayed in iLO should not matter. If it is not working then the issue needs to be troubleshooted.
iLO displays the name of all HPE components and options correctly as they designed to do so. It is possible that not all third party options parts nomenclature is reflecting the actual product name.
Well, in this instance, looking at the name of the card and its name in iLO the following may be made out, this is but a guess, not completely sure:
a. Regarding "Gigabit" - as the card is 10G, it may be hence denoted to inidicate its capacity.
b. "CT2" - sounds interesting, the name of the card as per Intel is "Intel® Ethernet Converged Network Adapter X550-T2" so the CT2 could stand for "Converged Network Adapter T2"
c. "Desktop Adapter" - Time to give up guessing!!! is it because of the word "Ethernet" in the name? not sure
The above is just an attempt at correlating the available information.
Regards,
