Is anyone using Promox VE on gen8 sl230s blades?

Trying to keep using these blades for a few more years before upgrading as we cannot justify the costs at this moment. Does anyone know if Promox VE runs on these and are there any special drivers needed or problems to keep in mind?

Hi,

I would suggest to fasttrack your timelines to upgrade, as this servers SL230s Gen8 is retired and Promax VE does not support, below is the hardware supported by Promax VE

HP

  • Proliant DL385 G5. Works well. Uses either P400 or P400i RAID controllers.
  • Proliant ML570 G2. Fails on bootup of ProxMox. Server works great using RHEL-based and FreeBSD, however.
  • Proliant DL360 G3. Fails on bootup of ProxMox with kernel panic.

Hi after posting this, I went ahead and gave it a try anyhow.

Once I disabled the RAID controller, Proxmox installed just fine and RAID is even better than hardware since it's ZFS based.

Everything I've installed on it for vms has worked so far.
