Hello,
Just wanted to ask about the upgrade sequence of VMware infrastructure.
Please correct me if im wrong.
upgrade sequence:
vCenter > ESXi > distributed switch > VMtools

SolutionHi jgorospe,
Yes, you need to upgrade in the sequence (Vcenter -> Esxi -> VMtools) but I don't think upgrading the Distrubuted switch in vmware is required.
If you face any issues even after upgrading, you can upgrade the Virtual hardaware and VMFS to compatible latest version.

Just wanted to contribute that VMtools versioning is completely decoupled from the underlying vSphere infrastructure and can be upgraded independently - it is both forward AND backward compatible so VMtools upgrades are not really a part of an upgrade sequence per se. It is recommended to always use the latest version of VMTools regardless of underlying VMware product platform version. The only relevant dependencies are compatibility between VMtools version and guest OS version, and compatibility between VMware product platform/optional VMware products and the guest OS.
