1200mx on W2K and 2944UW

Hi!

I've a 1200mx Jukebox connected to a adaptec adapter 2944UW in differential mode.
The jukebox has 6 drives.

When I boot up the server, and the jukebox is *NOT* in LUN mode,
all six drives and the arm are detected, but Windows only detects four!

After 30s or more, the remaining two drives come up on device manager...

If I use LUN mode, it worked once, but now every time I try to use this mode, the jukeboxe just freezes on boot and windows is unable to detected.

My problem is that I'm using FileNet and it only can see the first 4 drives because the other two "wake up" too late.

Any ideas?

The firmware are the latest version: ARM: 1.51, Drives: 1.13

Hello,

What filenet version are you using ?
did you run fndev ?
Can you see the physical addresses of all attached storage library devices ?

Re: 1200mx on W2K and 2944UW

Hi!

I'm running IS 3.6SP1 on W2K SP2

My steps,
fnddcfg -u to deconfigure everything an then fnddcfg again for configure:

Reboot, SCSI detection OK.

Normal mode (No LUN)

fndev -v

SOD.4020 to SOD.4050 and ARM.4060 are detected. First drives, SOD.4000 an SOD.4010 aren't. I've tryed everything like driver updates, firmware updates, changed SCSI ID's to no avail.

Changed to LUN mode, it worked ONE time.

Same steps (fnddcfg -u, fnddcfg)

fndev -v reports

SOD.4061 to SOD.4066 for drives and ARM.4060 to robotics.

Everything worked ok.

Reboot, to see if everything is ok,
SCSI SCAN ok
Jukebox freezes on boot,
W2K stops detecting the Jk.

Repeatable situation. Can't make it work anymore on LUN mode even after full power shutdown.

So back to normal mode, but I have the problem of the two missing drives...

On RSM manager two drives appear. Are the missing drives? Suppose so.

On device manger after boot, only 4 drives appear! but after 30s to 1 minute, device manager refreshs automa. and 6 drives appear.

So thats why the filenet driver only sees 4 drives and not 6.

they are "slow"????

Any ideas? I'm stuck on this.

Re: 1200mx on W2K and 2944UW

Hi Francisco,

I saw some info on Robert Beckers posting and put some info there so some of this may be a duplicate.

The problem that you're seeing with the device claiming could be one of 2 sources. The first is the Adaptec driver itself. The released AIC driver for Win 2K sends a select out to quickly after the bus reset during boot up. As a result devices are not guaranteed to be ready. There is a driver to fix this, however Adaptec has not managed to get it released to the public web-site yet for some reason, and they will not allow HP to redistribute it.

There is another issue with device claiming on Windows 2000 that can effect SCSI devices. It turns out that changes in the driver model results in fighting between PNP and third party drivers.

I'm working with Microsoft currently on the availability of this hotfix and I'll update this posting when I have the information (I will update this week-end).

Thanks,
John

Fransisco, John,

Were you able to solve the problem with the 1200mx jukebox in LUN mode on W2K? If, so I would certainly like to know what the problem was since I am having the same problem with a 2200mx jukebox.

Did you obtain a new Adaptec driver, a W2K hotfix, ...?

Thanks,

Nico.

Re: 1200mx on W2K and 2944UW

Unfortunately we are having troubles working with Adaptec on the Win2K driver issue.

They currently have a version available that does fix the problem however it has been placed under a hidden Adaptec site that is pass-word protected.

They are requiring that individuals contact them to obtain this driver.

I will continue trying to work with them to come up with a better resolution. In the meantime if you contact your FileNet or HP repair representative they should be able to assist you in obtaining the updated driver.

Re: 1200mx on W2K and 2944UW

Hi folks,

My solution was to install the "unreleased" Adaptec driver for Windows 2000. It was technical support of FileNet that lead me to this solution.

After installing this driver I do not have any more problems, and the jukebox is working fine.

I don't have any SCSI errors or FileNet errors.

Now I don't know if it's "legal" to post here the location of this driver...

Re: 1200mx on W2K and 2944UW

HI,

So glad I searched this site. I have the exact configuration and have been working for the last week with FileNET and HP to resolve this issue. Escalated to both and have replaced several parts on the new 1200. I will be getting with some folks tomorrow to locate this hidden Adaptec Driver.

Thanks,
Mark

Re: 1200mx on W2K and 2944UW

Hi,

There is a release note regarding IS 3.6 that documents this problem and has the solution:

The reference Nbr(S): STR 55503

I would post the location of the file, or even the release note, but with so many draconian laws (DMCA, etc), is better to contact the FileNet support, and with that number I'm sure that they can help you. If not, Mike Rudy from FileNet knows what the problem is... 8-)

Best of luck

Hallo,
we have the same configuration and the same problem. It would be very nice, if someone could send us the driver for the AHA 2944 to michael.strobehn@haftpflichtkasse.de

Thanks
