8200e Problems

I've just upgraded from 98 to XP, and my cd writer now won't burn.

I get buffer underrun errors. I think it's because of a conflict somewhere in the system, which is what I need help with straightning out. I usually use Nero to burn, and want to continue doing so. I have the latest Nero version, and all the HP drivers are up to date.

I have included as an attachment a jpeg of what Nero Info Tool is showing me when I check the Configuration, and find an Unknown Adapter.

I have Norton Antivirus, which I have uninstalled to see if it makes a difference while burning, but there was no change at all.

Also, just looking at my system info, it tells me that my Total Physical Memory is 256mb, yet my Available Physical Memory is only at 54.57 mb. Is this normal??? Could this lack of free RAM be enough to cause the buffer underrun?

Re: 8200e Problems

Also, in this post I've included a strange thing I've found in Device Manager. As the 8220e is an external USB device, there may be a conflict here. It is showing two sets of everything.

Please view the attached jpeg to see what I mean.

Re: 8200e Problems

Definitely, remove one of each. Did you attempt to install twice?

Also there may be a conflict in DMA between the 8200 and another internal drive.

I'd try to fix the roster first, and see if removing DMA on another drive, allows the new one to work.

Otherwise I'd have to say, it's likely old enough that it won't work in XP.

Also I've read that XP needs a BIOS update for memory distribution, not sure about your model.

Re: 8200e Problems

OK, I'm removed one lot.

How can I find out if there is a DMA conflict?

What's the roster?

How can I find out what my BIOS model is?

Thanks for your help.

Re: 8200e Problems

Now that's a mighty fine server belch....you've found the roster

Near the top is the drive(s), if you have two, remove one from profile, see what happens.

If you have one burner drive, make sure in it's settings, that DMA is checked, that's Direct memory access, needed for bulky streaming stuff.

If you do, in fact, have two burner drives, they will often cause havoc with one another.

When you start cold, wait for the HP screen to light up, hit esc, you will then see the post page. At the very top of the bios's post page is it's title and date. If you want to fiddle in there, hit F1 before it's done, it will open directly into bios page 1.
