Adaptec software "disables" secondary CD-ROM
I installed a new HP 9510i CD Writer in my computer (Gateway2000, Pentium 100, 96mb RAM, 8mb hard drive, Win98). When I installed new hard drive, formatted it, and installed Windows98, both the CD writer and the original CD-ROM are recognized and funtion properly. The minute I install the Adaptec CD writer program and then try to use the CD-ROM, windows does not recognize the drive properly. It thinks all cd's are audio cd's (even data cd's); and when I do put in an audio cd, I have no control over stopping the cd or changing tracks, etc. When I uninstall the Adaptec program, both CD's read disks properly. I have tried every combination of primary and secondary connections on the cables; I have tried every combination of slave, master, and cable select jumper settings. I am at a loss. Anybody have any advice for me??
