CD-ROM & Windows 2000

I'm using a Compaq Deskpro EN Series SFF running Windows 2000.
Insert CD-ROM into drive. Power-up the System.
Open 'My Computer' double-click the CD-ROM icon and I can read the CD-ROM without a problem.
Remove the CD-ROM, power down the System.
Power Up the System. Open 'My Computer' icon. Double-click the CD-ROM icon. Then I receive the following the message:
D:\is not accessible
Incorrect function.
Has anyone seen this behavior before and what is the solution.
Thanx.

Re: CD-ROM & Windows 2000

Hi Rob,

I am not sure if I understand you correctly, isnt that the correct behaviour?

if there is no CD-ROM in the drive then what do you expect?

let me know if I have misunderstood your query...

regards.

Re: CD-ROM & Windows 2000

Thank You for answering my inquiry/question.
You are correct, I missed a point/step.
After the System is Powered-Up, insert the CD-ROM, open 'My Computer', double-click
the CD-ROM icon and I then get the message:
D:\is not accessible
Incorrect function
Sorry for the over sight.
Thanx

Re: CD-ROM & Windows 2000

Just to make sure I understand this. When you start your PC with a cd in the cdrom drive, it works fine. Once you have the PC started, and insert a cd in the cdrom drive this is when you get the D:\ Not accessible. Is this correct?
I assume that you are using the same CD both times. Have you checked via device manager once the pc is started before you insert the cd? Make sure it is operating correctly. Have you done all your updates and service packs? Once you have all this done, you can try removing the device via the hardware manager, and then reboot your PC, and let windows find it again, and it will reload the drivers.
