CD Writer Plus 7200 problem

I am trying to install the external parallel port CDRW drive on my Win98 SE machine. Midway through the boot process the drive freezes and the eject button stops functioning. The only way to get it to work again is to unplug and attach again the power supply to the drive. This also happens when I hit 'refresh' in the Devide Manager window.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on?? HELP!!

Re: CD Writer Plus 7200 problem

Have you already installed any of the software that came with the 7200? If yes, I would uninstall it all until you get beyond this problem. If you have a Dell, Gateway Solo 5150, or HP Kayak or Pavilion 4400, 6400, 8400 computer, consider downloading/installing the ShuttleTech driver 1.42 from the following web page:

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hpcd-write9682_swen.html

At that same location, there are potentially newer firmware, software, and software patches.

If you have another CD device on your system and try to install from it, the ShuttleTech driver will be overlaid by an older version. Once the 7200 drive is working, install the software from it. Then the driver will NOT be installed.

Let us know the results.
Make a great day!
