CD-Writer 7200 Switch out

I have an external CD-writer 7200 plus. I've had it for quite some time and lately it's been going down hill. I would like to know how feasible/possible it would be to buy a new internal IDE cd writer and install it into the external case of the old 7200.

Should be ok with a new HP cdwriter.
( same interface / same settings ( jumpers ? ).

Ben, do you know where I can get a driver for a HP CD writer plus 7200e and a Win ME OS?
