CD-Writer Plus 8210e won't install

I have seen several posts that seem to be about the same problem I have, except no solution has been posted yet. I have been given an 8210e, but I don't have the original software and drivers that came on cd. I downloaded the newest drivers from hp and unpacked them, but when I pluged in the 8210 to the usb port, it was recognized as an "HP Mesa" and the wizard claimed it could not find the drivers when I pointed to them. I loaded the drivers onto a floppy, same problem. I upgraded the usb driver to one available from HP, no change.

My machine is a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4300 laptop (new in February) with W98SE. The usb port works fine with my Olympus camera.

Do I just need some other driver (HP Mesa?) before loading the cd-writer's drivers? There is no reference to HP Mesa that I can find on the HP site. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks. That driver worked fine. I don't understand how hp can have a driver on their site that doesn't work, and a 3rd party's site has one that will. I also don't understand how hp's e-mail and telephone tech support were all totally useless. All I ever got were the same suggestions from their support site, that I had already tried.
