Disaster recovery with 8200i

I have been trying since March to install/run DR on my CDW+ 8200i. It gets as far as copying system to diskette, then says it needs to customize that disk, at which point it fails because it can't write to the disk -- full or write-prot (spurious, of course). HP Belfast (UK help desk) spent many hours with me and escalated to NL, but in the end can only suggest I completely reconfigure my PC. I'm unwilling to do that without first protecting myself with DR -- Catch 22!. In any case, I've never had this problem with any other sw.

Sugestions gratefully received.
