Format problems with DirectCD and dvd300i

I am using DirectCD version 5.3.5 under XP Pro with a HP dvd300i dvd writer. Everytime that I try to format a CD-RW disc with DirectCD, it will format about half of a disc (about 15 minutes worth), then the following error message pops up: " Error Formatting unit. (0x8062900). You will not be able to read and write through drive letter access". At his point, I have another coaster.

I have the latest update from Roxio for DirectCD and my HP software tells me that the firmware is up to date.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
