Formatting a CD-RW with DirectCD 2.5d doesn't work in W98 2nd

Hi,
I'am using DirectCD version2.5d under Windows 98 Sec Ed.
While formatting a CD-RW disc with DirectCD the screen is showing up for a few seconds and then starts telling me the following error message: " Error Formatting unit. (0x8062900). You will not be able to read and write through drive letter access".
Strange, because when formatting a CDR those problems don't appear. I tried different types of CDRW of different speeds like Lead data, Arita, Lenco and Imation with speeds varying from 4x to 10x, it doesn't make any difference.
I already de-installed my whole HP-software (incl. DirectCD)and then reinstalled it(after rebooting), but still the problem remains.
I' am desperate and very frustrated because I already contacted HP, but they don't have a proper solution.
One solution they told me to do is download DLA from their site which is about 6.1 Meg.
I did this and installed the DLA software, after removing all my HP software and reboot.
Then I tried it with DLA;right-clicked on CD writer and choose Format from the menu.
I was rather optimistic, beacause the blue progressbar was now moving. It said it needed about 4:40 minutes to complete the task. So I waited but by the time the 4:40 were up, the blue progress status bar did not move any further and the Elapsed time was still going on.
So even with DLA I am still not able to format my CDRW!

Please can you tell me what's going on (wrong)?

Many thanks,

Mr. R. Panday

Could it be that you are trying to use a 2x CDRW in a writer only suited for 4x and up? With a 4x up Plextor and Arita CDRW, I got the same message as you did when I used DirectCD. Using 4x up CDRW's never gave formatting or writing errors.
