Her is how to make all burners work in XP( DOC.)

Hope this will help you.

I have tried this on several burners, and it work on all of them.

How to make burners work under Windows XP.

1: Install "ForceASPI17"

URL: http://www.hot.ee/avst/cdex/cdex.html "Russian site." Download file on the buttom_left site.

2: Reboot.

3: Install "udfread_v501-191_inst"

URL: http://www.roxio.com/en/support/udfwin/udfwinupdates.html;jsessionid=3UB5HJIQVTCXPJ4YZOUB3KQ

4: Reboot

To burn CD_RW. DirectCD_5.1 is a must.

If you like, install Easy CD Creator Platinum/Basic, Fireburner ect.
( Be carefully to install the products, as the manufactor's is given.)

The XP system will sometimes tell, that DirectCD will be disabel. But don't pay
attension to this. It will work anyway.

If you still have problem with External Burners. Take the burner out of the box,
and make it a Internal Burner! Follow the same installation procedure.

Dear Foxtrot,
I haven't tried the solution you suggested yet, because I have Windows 98 not XP. I'm still waiting to hear from HP about attaching my old CD PLAYER - because I really need both. Then maybe I can upload the soft ware for the HP cd16ri burner/writer. I never would have thought that you have to download the software BEFORE you install the hardware. Oh, Brother!!!
Well, Thanks for your help. I still may try your suggestion... not sure yet!!! :o)

Do I have to use EZ cd creator for it to work?Because HP RecordNow still doesn't work. And can I use another program like Nero

Jeff:
Make sure there is a drive letter assigned to the drive using the administrator functions in Control Panel. Also, Tweak has an option that you can have it only show a few of your drives. Make sure it has the drive letter checked. Other tweak type programs can do the same thing. Make sure there is not a lastdrive statement lower than your drive letter.

Re: Her is how to make all burners work in XP( DOC.)

I don't know how my original question got turned into this one. I NEVER HAD WINDOWS XP.

ANYWAY, I fixed my computer myself after trying to get software on the internet from HP and this Resource Center for a couple weeks. I had uninstalled the CD PLAYER BEFORE I put the software in. THAT is was started the problem.

THE PROBLEM was that I could not install the software AFTER installing the HP CD burner. YOU HAVE T OINSTALL THE SOFTWARE FIRST.(How Weird!)

I hope this can help others in the future.

Re: Her is how to make all burners work in XP( DOC.)

This is to report that a fix shared in this forum worked for me.

I upgraded from NT to Windows 2000 Pro some months ago. Didn't need to write a CDRW in until recently... quickly discovered that the old software wasn't dependable

I removed Direct-CD and CD-Creator, then installed DLA and RecordNow.

Repeated attempts to format a CDRW failed. Then I read Maria DeStefano's post... I uninstalled the 9200i
(in the control panel, not physically) and rebooted.

On startup Win2k reported that DLA had detected new hardware, and installed it for me. One more reboot and - presto! - I had a working system that formats, writes and reads CDRW.

So... after installing DLA, reinstall the cdwriter.

Why didn't I learn this from the HP Support FAQ?

I sure do appreciate HP's sponsorship of this user-to-user forum, but their dismal support for three-year-old printers and peripherals has sent me shopping for new products among their competitors
