Hp Cd-writer Crashes XP

I have used this 8220E on 2000 Pro for years and it worked great. Now I loaded XP with sp1&2 and all up dates and the latest HP drivers for XP and when I use the writer I get a fatal crash error. I’m using it on a P3 laptop with 384 meg ram using Nero.
Please advise Thanks Jeff

This drive states that it is 2000 compatible but not XP.
