Optical Jukebox 300mx

Im connecting an optical jukebox 300mx to a HP DL380 G3 server. Ive installed a compaq 64 bit/66mhz single channel wide ultra 3 scsi adapter card that uses Low voltage differential. The 2 devices are connected up via a 12m low voltage 68 pin cable. When powering on the jukebox Im receiving error 61 relating to the scsi connection. Does anyone know if the error is with the card or wether a specific cable needs to be used ?

Benjamin,
there're 2 interfaces on the library: FWD/HVD (high-voltage-differential, incompatible with LVD/SE controllers) and SE. You can connect juke to your LVD controller only by 50-pin single-ended connector, but in this case you need 50-68pin adapter cable (at least). If you managed to connect library, then make sure switch on the juke's SCSI repeater board is in position 'closer' to SE interface (SE selected).
Error displayed may mean that you connected LVD controller to HVD library's connector - it will not work and can damage either LVD controller or HVD library port

Ahhh yes.. forgot. In SE mode maximum cable length is 6 meters. If you connect SE device to LVD bus whole bus become SE bus - 5mb/s (for library's narrow), 6 meters cable

Do you have a part number of a HVD scsi card that will work in an HP DL380 G3 server, also do I need to use special cables over a 12M length ? I have a 12m low voltage 68 pin cable.

Unfortunately I do not have product/part number for proliants, but 2944-like card is a standard, see http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/product/proddetail.html?sess=no&language=English+US&prodkey=AHA-2944UW&cat=%2fTechnology%2fSCSI%2fSCSI+for+Servers . Cabling should be very simple - 68-to-68pin cable and HVD terminator at the end of the bus. Max HVD bus lenght is 25 meters
