Pavillion 7940 DVD troubles

Hello I recently bought a Pavillion 7940 @ 1Ghz w/ a Pentium3 Processor...I rented some DVDs and went to play them and they wouldn't play so then I went to Accerories>entertainment then to the DVDPlayer program and hit play and it still didn't work please help. Thank You.
