problem in optical juke box library
Hardware Configuration:
Intel PC, with Adoptec PCI Card single-end SCSI
connected to Optical Juke box 160FX
Software Configuration:
1.Windows 2000 Advanced server with SP2, Customer has viewstar application to mange the optical library.
Libary firmware details:
Product: C1160F
Drive :C1113F (4X drive )
Drive Firmware:1.48 Autoloader:0.47
Problem:
1.Customer had problem like viewstart application while starting checks for all drive and optical media status which was failing.
2.At the same time whenever they reboot PC, it use to hang while sensing all the drives.
Action Taken:
1.Install SCSI toolbox and tried to test the drive and library but it was showing SCSI ID 3 drive offline reset of the drives online
2.We tought it could create problem, we have replaced the drive SCSI ID 3. but now it shows online and reset of the drives
offline.
3.since drives firmware was different like new dirve was with 1.62 and reset of the drives was 1.48, then I was tried to update
firmware with LTT (since we had firmware in .frm format only)
4.I have tried latest LTT 3.4version which was showing unknown device for robatic arm and two drives. Also shows two drives for known
to the LTT but whenever we click known drives it was popup message saying update SP3 or above.
5.I have tried LTT 3.2 and also lower version but problem remain same.
6. This setup was working for more fine for more than year,
Clarification:
1.Why the drives showing offline in SCSI tool box?
2.how do we update firmware of all the drives to latest?
3.Is there any known issues with the LTT and 160Fx optical juke box
4. how to proced on this issue?
Can any one help on this matter urgent basis.

Re: problem in optical juke box library
hi Natesan
It seems strange that L&TT do not recognize the device, have you tried with the las L&TT 3.5HF1?
I suspect there is something in the communication path, that's why L&TT do not recognize it.
I would suggest to check cable for bent/missing pins, check terminator, try to disconnect one at a time the drive internaly and see if one is locking the scsibus.
If you have SCITOOLbox, probably you can run some connectivity test for investigation.
Wen you have solved the connectivity problem, you will probably be allowed to upgrade the FW.
Be sure you are not booting the unit with a media on the drive.

Re: problem in optical juke box library
Take in mind that there is also a procedure to put off-line drives, and to make on-line repair. This function is made with dipswitches if I remember well, and the controller board may be the cause.
Also be sure that your power supply is giving power to all drives

Re: problem in optical juke box library
Natesan,
There are no known problems with LTT and C1160F libraries. However, if the drive is marked offline through the library, there is no power to the drive, and the drive will not respond to commands on the SCSI bus.
LTT must be able to communicate to the drives via the bus, it cannot communicate to them via the library.
So most likely you have an issue with the drive offline settings.
If you require help with LTT, send e-mail to ltt_team@hp.com.
Regards,
Jan
