Problem with 9100

I am able to create music cds on cd-r but when I try to format a cd-rw to back up my quicken file, it will not format. I was able to successfully do back ups for awhile then it made my disk read only and ever since then I can not make new disks or format them. I am using the programs that come with the burner - the easy cd creator and adaptec. I run on windows 98 - I can't figure out why I'm having this problem. Please help. The error I get is Unit Attention (0x8062900) You will not be able to read and write to the disc through drive letter access.

Do not despair...yet!

The following web page has a firmware upgrade, Adaptec software upgrade, backup software upgrade, etc. Also, you can get Adaptec software upgrades at www. roxio.com. Good luck and let us know results. Thanks.
Make a great day!

Re: Problem with 9100

I don't know if my reply worked last time....I tried the new firmware and can't get it to work. It takes forever and then it errors out. Any thoughts on that? I can't remember what the error was and now I'm at work so I can't try it again.

Re: Problem with 9100

You should check your Firmware first before trying to upgrade.

If you have version 1.0c then you already have the latest and the Firmware update won't run.

How to check if you're using Win95,98 or ME:Go to Device Manager, click the plus sign beside CDRom,X2 click on the HP Drive and then click on Settings. You'll see the Firmware version in here. Also disable DMA also if there is any mention of it.

Thanks for the help! Updating the firmware did it and disabling DMA was the trick!
