SureStore Optical 40fx device error

Hi,
I recently found an optical 40fx device in storage and need some help installing the device. I currently have an Adaptec AHA-2944u pci scsi adapter (updated bios) and the 40fx is hooked up. The device is found during boot, but Windows 98 calls this an unknown device and asks for a driver. The strange part is My Computer shows two new removable devices, yet they are inaccessible.
Do I need a driver? or am I missing a step?

Thanks,

Eric

Re: SureStore Optical 40fx device error

hi
ususaly as all the Optical Jukebox, you need a dedicated software to manage it,
you will see two or more devices because one is the robot controller, the other are the optical drives

Can you suggest a dedicated software to manage the 40fx?

Re: SureStore Optical 40fx device error

I forgot to ask this in the last reply, but what exactly is Windows 98 needing in order to get the device working. It seems to be asking for a device driver yet i can't find any drivers for the 40fx.

Re: SureStore Optical 40fx device error

There are no device drivers for the optical changer for Windows 95/98/ME.

Most 3rd party software will communicate with the device via a protocol that is called 'SCSI passthrough' - in the case of Win98 most likely via the ASPI interface.

However, Win98 is not aware of this. You can simply ignore the message from Windows by selecting 'Cancel'.

Re: SureStore Optical 40fx device error

Thanks so much for your reply Jan. When you say 3rd party management software what might be some examples that you could recommend to me.

Thanks again,

Check out the following URL http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/products/archivalprod/sol_finder/index.html. It should have resources for ther various software packages available for optical storage.
